D’Amelio Terras is pleased to present a summer exhibition entitled “Humble County”. The purpose of the exhibition is to bring together a concise and representative group of artists whose work explores formal issues through the use of humble or everyday materials. Following a path out of minimalism, these artists focus on the use of consumer material, found color and the repetition of form to create three dimensional works and environments. Yet, unlike minimalism’s rigorous denial of subjective content, these works embrace expression and have the capacity to communicate ‡emotions ranging from the poetic, to the personal, to the absurd.
“Humble County” is an imaginary place that we believe exists today on the map of aesthetic discourse. At the turn of the millennium, this generation of artists is among its model residents.
