D’Amelio Terras is pleased to announce that Polly Apflebaum is now represented by the gallery. She will have a one person exhibition from 25 April thru 6 June 1998.
A large new floor piece titled Ice, one of her largest and most ambitious piece to date, will be on view.

The work of Polly Apfelbaum is a hybrid between painting and sculpture where the form of the whole results from the obsessive accumulation of individual parts. An exuberant sense of color and the use of synthetic material allows Ice to pulsate and shift with any change of light.
Following a system of permutation and combination, small velvet pieces are dyed with the 104 available different colors of fabric dye and arranged in an intricate, gradual progression from yellow to black, forming a large floating figure on the gallery floor. Taking a departure from logic, the system ruling the piece becomes that of fluid thought.
Polly Apfelbaum lives and works in New York. She has exhibited widely since 1986. She currently has an exhibition at Magasin 3, Stockholm, Sweden. Forthcoming exhibition of the artist include the inaugural exhibition of Kiasma, Finnish National Gallery, Helsinki, Finland. She is one of the artists selected to represent the United States at the Sydney Biennal opening in September 1998.
