D’Amelio Terras is pleased to present Joanne Greenbaum’s second solo exhibition of paintings.
Greenbaum’s fresh and colorful canvases have been compared to the process of drawing and its historical predilection for “cartoons, games, plotting schemes, decorative hobbies, tattoos, and script, along with the subversive spirit and good humor that underlie these forms of expression.” The paintings are non-formulaic and free, offering the viewer an occasion to experience pure retinal pleasure. The liveliness of Greenbaum’s paintings reflects the recent exuberance that has bubbled up through the medium on the international scene.
Joanne Greenbaum has appeared in several recent group exhibitions including “Painting: Now and Forever” at Matthew Marks Gallery and “Exploiting the Abstract” at Feigen Contemporary. She will show at greengrassi in London during the summer of 1999.
