D’Amelio Terras is pleased to present its second solo exhibition of John Morris’ drawings, on view September 5 – 30. The artist’s delicate and intricate compositions of graphite, ink, gesso and wax are often inspired by the layering of polyphonic music as well as the complex formations and rapid growth of Silicon Valley companies, revealing an interest in self-propelled and proliferating structures. In each drawing, simple forms and single layers react to one another in an intuitively logical progression. The interactions which follow create unexpected harmonies within a shifting ground of dynamic equilibrium. Organic, erotic and unearthly at once, these obsessively detailed drawings create tension between the decorative and the anatomical.
Recent exhibitions of John Morris’ work include a solo show at Anthony Meier Fine Arts in San Francisco and group shows at the Islip Art Museum, Islip, New York, and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Public collections which have acquired Morris’ works include the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the Bohen Foundation.
