D’Amelio Terras, New York
October 9 – November 6, 1999
From October 9 through November 6, D’Amelio Terras will present its second one-person exhibition of Brazilian photographer Miguel Rio Branco.
In the afterword to the Aperture monograph on the artist, Lélia Wanick Salgado and Sebastiâo Salgado write: “We see Rio Branco as a profoundly Brazilian photographer. He captures the humidity of Brazil’s tropical colors, the fierce light that transforms pinks and greens and blues. He enters into the spirit of color, finding its very depth as perhaps no other photographer working _in color today. It probably helps that he is also both artist and movie-maker: he uses color like a painter and light like a cinematographer.”
Miguel Rio Branco was born in the Canary Islands and lives in Brazil. Recently the artist was included in the Bienal de Sâo Paulo and has had solo exhibitions in London, Paris, Madrid and San Francisco. He currently has a one-person exhibition at the Fundació “la Caixa” in Barcelona.
