Following Polly Apfelbaum’s recent exhibition at the lumber room in Portland, Tony Feher has created a site-determined installation that will be on view through June 29th. Both artists were invited to visit the space together to exchange ideas and their consecutive shows unfold as part of an ongoing conversation.
For this installation, Feher has employed a series of ephemeral, site-determined works in response to the lumber room’s architecture. Using torn pieces of blue painters tape applied directly to the window, Feher laboriously covers all three windows with an intricate motif of geometric patterns that are reminiscent of antique stained glass. The gradation of light filtering through the windows further transforms the environment through its changing light. This is Feher’s largest multi-panel window work to date, done exclusively with painter’s tape. Feher additionally has made several three-dimensional unique works that compliment and enhance the overall viewing experience.
